0004 -- hitting the spot

i'm a huge fan of grilled cheeses. i don't think i ever really ate them when i was a kid, but as i've gotten older they've really become a staple in my comfort food group. jordan's mom makes the best/worst grilled cheeses, potato bread, butter, american cheese, and always burnt on at least one side because we got too into our conversation and forgot that we were grilling...oops!

recently jordan and i found ourselves in santa ana for an art show. we were starving and thought we should treat ourselves to something comforting before having to go meet up with the family. the grilled cheese spot was calling our name (and our stomaches) so we went in.

it's small, it's got rad design, and they had every single option i could have wanted.

the guy behind the counter was helpful and we were chowing down in no time! they've got a board of changing specials that ranged from the government standard: white bread & cheese, to the dusk till dawn: smoked gouda, applewood smoked bacon, 2 fried eggs, grilled onions on sourdough. we opted for build your owns which is totally like the wichwhich of grilled cheeses. so awesome!

to top off our trip, the above mentioned rad dude behind the counter started to tell us about dessert grilled cheeses they make and then proceed to make us one (mascarpone and cookie butter, my mind was blown) AND he didn't even charge us! the idea is rad, the execution is great, and the owners are known to be good at what they do (check out the crosby right around the corner for their resto/bar)! if you find yourself in the santa ana area, do yourself the favor and stop into the grilled cheese spot!
